Lisa’s experience with petit mal seizures
Lisa’s personal epilepsy story was submitted to Living Well With Epilepsy to remind children and teens with epilepsy they are not alone.
As a child, my seizures were a very pleasant experience, but for the longest time my parents thought I was just daydreaming. I went undiagnosed until I was 8. I was having over 100 petit mal seizures a day, and my grades were so poor that I was put into English as a Second Language (ESL) courses because my teachers didn’t think I knew English.
The medication made me violently ill and I suffered paranoia, delusions and suicidal thoughts. I am now seizure-free, but I wanted to spread this message to children and adults alike: The mind is infinitely complex. The more we can research natural cures, the less likely it will be that children have to take harsh, mind-altering drugs. I wrote a book, Jamais Vu, about my experiences as a teen with epilepsy, available here: http://tinyurl.com/korhg8s
I want to reach children and teens who are going through I went through: You’re not alone, and you’re not “crazy.” You’re going to make it through.
